(Acts 17:11: Please learn to do your own Bible studies like this one – here.)

This study on marriage has 3 parts:

(Continued from Part 2.)

Marriage – Why Is Getting Married and Having a Wedding Party Important?

Like Jesus made a blood covenant with us – by his own blood – taking us as His bride, so that we would be One flesh with Him by His Holy Spirit indwelling us – giving us new birth. Communion is another symbol of this.

We eat so the flesh and blood become part of us. In the same way we become One flesh with our spouse through intimacy. And through that intimate love – kids are made, in our image.

And in that same way – when we walk intimately with our Lord, God, and Best Friend, Jesus – then we bear fruit and lead others to also discover and receive through Jesus, to become kids of God the Father. We lead others to Jesus. Our lives are transformed. We hear His voice.

We follow Him. We make a difference for Heaven – on Earth.

Like the veil in the Old Testament Temple keeping people from the holy of holies, the core of the temple (our bodies are called the temple of the Holy Spirit) was torn from top to bottom when Jesus died, gave his blood and paid for our sins – so the virgin bleeds on the wedding night as the veil, the hymen, hiding the way to the holy of holies, and the true foundation to God-ordained fruitfulness, is broken through by her husband. That is how holy and God-blessed sex is.

As the Father is the only one who knows when Jesus will be allowed to come back to earth and gather his bride – his Church, his children – and must have patience to reach that union with us – to gather us to heaven – so a bride and a groom must wait to have sexual union until the day of the marriage feast.

Some of the Loving God-ordained Principles at Play Here Are

  • You leave your father and mother and become ONE flesh – you know each other intimately
  • Everything in the Bible points to it being a VERY big thing – a very important thing. It is a bringing together of 2 families! Huge! It is the celebration of love. It is for the rest of life. It is to bring children into the world – out of love. It is for better or worse.
  • Everything points to it being only good, natural, and right – that you want to celebrate this decision with those closest to you and to have your church involved and have a blessing on the decision. It is a HUGE decision to start a family together. To live together for the rest of your lives.
  • Also – the only way to break a marriage is by one of the people having sex outside the marriage – or dying. Therefore, waiting with sex with your mate till after marriage, is also a holiness and self-control test.
  • It is also built in this way so that sex does not disturb the picture of a man and a woman first becoming friends and actually liking to be together – not just for the sex.
  • White Bride Dreams
  • Why is it that it is such a big deal for a girl to be the white bride? Why does it seem to somehow be built into every girl? Like so many other things it is hardwired into her to long for that and dream about that. Why? The Bible clearly says: We are called by God to be the white dressed bride of Christ – His Church, His pure bride, washed clean by the blood – that cleanses us completely and makes us white as snow – sin free, pure, and holy 100% in the eyes of God! She has kept herself pure in devotion and sexual desire and unity – for her husband – and is now ready for marriage, unity, love, kids, family etc. That is how we are to see our relationship with Jesus as well.

Is any resistance you have to Christian Biblical values coming from liking sex and having already crossed that line?

A great question to ask – if you are not wanting to get married is – is it really an excuse for just wanting sex now? Or a justification of having already had sex – and not wanting to stop that – no matter what the perfect will of God is?

Do you truly believe that the loving rules of God – are loving (for you, others, and God) – and freeing, and truthful, and eternal?

The ‘Why Not?’ Question

Why Would You Not Want to Have a Party – Before Sex and Before Marriage?

If you argue that no wedding party is needed. Some great questions to ask yourself are. Why not? It’s a great opportunity to show your faith to your friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

Have you truly, really paused, given it deep, honest, and willing thought, and fully submitted to God’s ideal plan for you – being willing to do it no matter what it is – as long as it is love, holy, just, matching His beautiful plan for all?

While knowing that He is all about forgiveness and second chances while not permitting sin.

If you really have paused and surrendered and let Jesus be the Lord – not just your Servant (which He also crazily is) the conclusion should be that you want to submit and wait as that is the will of God as revealed in the Bible.

We Lack the Money to Do a Big Party – What Do We Do?

What about the money it takes to “do a big wedding in the right way”? The money and size of the party is not the core of being married – the heart is. The commitment to God is. The commitment to purity is. The commitment to doing this for the rest of life – before sex – is. The commitment to raising kids together, building a family and the celebration of that major love and life milestone is.

Living a Principled, Obedient, and Disciplined Christian Life

If there are sicknesses, accidents, disobedience, failure or sin or other circumstances – then that does not change the principles of purity, devotion, holiness, and the principle of one man with one wife for life.

The Second Definition We Need to Get Is Then

When Are You Married – According to the Bible?

When 2 adults freely agree to live together for life before God, family, friends, and society. The natural thing for truly born-again spirit filled Christians is to get engaged, then have a wedding party where they publicly commit to each other before God and man.

Then they should consummate that commitment in sexual union – and live radical committed Christian lives – running to fulfill the purposes of God for them individually and together. Teaming up to see each other living the Jesus life, the calling and purposes of God for each of them – to the MAX.

Divorce and Remarriage

This World Is Not Perfect – Even Though We Fight the Enemy Hard – To Bring Heaven to Earth

Hopefully, you will never lose your spouse in any way. But for some – this happens for a million different reasons. This world is fallen – we are to bring heaven’s good and perfect will to earth – but things do not always happen as we hope and as they should.

We have a free will, this earth is fallen and nature is fallen, the devil and his demons are alive and kicking. Other people do not do what they should and we, ourselves, are not perfect.

People are rebellious against God – and follow the enemy of our souls – even though they don’t intend to.

The battle is real – BUT God – is here for us, strong and mighty and our will is strong enough to choose Him – and He has given us tools to overcome all temptations, losses, challenges – and win all battles.

How to Fix Challenges in Your Marriage

If you have challenges in your marriage. I encourage you to cry out to God and to find solutions. There is always a way – if both are truly willing. Find good books, find good people, good, solid Christian born again Spirit filled marriage counselors, therapists and psychologists – good Christian friends – who will talk with you, counsel you, believe in you, pray with you and stand with you. People have overcome what seems like insurmountable mountains in their marriage before you!

Your Deepest Identity and Self-definition Needs to Be Anchored in Eternal Truth

Your spouse should never be your meaning of life. You should have life, meaning, identity, and foundation in the love of Jesus – your friendship with Him. Only He should be your God. Only He can handle being God = being number One in your life – and only with Him on the throne will you be a whole and truly strong person.

Clearing Some Misunderstandings Regarding Divorce and Remarriage

Some Christians think you that if you have been married – and both are still alive – you can never get married to another person.

But Jesus said Matthew 19:9

Whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.

Here – the plain and clean explanation is – that it is OK to get divorced and remarried – if your spouse has been sexually unfaithful.

Interestingly, Jesus also said in Matthew 5:27-28

You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

These 2 Scriptures would mean anyone can get divorced at any time. In the end of the day – marriage is a daily choice!

Also, if a non-Christian wants to leave a marriage to a Christian – they should allow that person to go.

If the unbelieving partner separates, let it be so. In such cases the brother or sister is not enslaved.

1 Corinthians 7:15

Does that then also mean they cannot remarry? No – then that non-Christian spouse has broken the basics of what marriage is and should be and the marriage is then dead – annulled, and the spouse is free to remarry.

Furthermore, the Bible is very clear. When a Christian’s spouse dies – then they are 100% free to remarry – as long as it is to another Christian. This is what the following Scripture means:

1 Corinthians 7:39

A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord.

So, death and adultery clearly allows you to remarry. A non-believing spouse who wants to leave allows you to let them go – but then again, so does if I look at another woman than my wife with lust…

So, in the end of the day – marriage – and the whole process up to that should be done carefully, thoughtfully, radically, in the Lord – under Christ – reflecting how the relationship is between Christ and His bride – the Church = us who are born again by the Holy Spirit of God (please read Ephesians 5:21-33).

And – if your spouse breaks what a marriage is in a serious way, it makes sense to have serious talks, take real steps to improve, as well as real steps to forgive.

Final Thoughts

What amazing gifts God has given us in each other – man and woman, husband and wife. Family. Kids. Grandkids. Sex. Proposal. Courting. Weddings. Marriages. When all of life is done under God – it is beautifully giving, rewarding, and fulfilling.

This life is a blessing – designed to be lived out in close intimate friendship with the Lover of our soul – God, Jesus the Christ, the son of Man and the King of Heaven – the Lord of Lords, Friend of Friends – and the Creator of Heaven and Earth – and the Righteous Judge of us all – as well as the Commander of the Armies of Heaven.

We are created by Him, for Him, to live through Him – 24/7 – 365 – for eternity – beginning now. Let’s do that – thereby living in and experiencing the true meaning of life.

Enjoy deeply – these wonderful gifts of God – what a crazy thing that He has given us the ability to co-create life with Him – life in our image – and His.

= He loves and trusts us!

Peace – out.
