Heresy Hunters and “Exposed” Ministries, Part 1 – Testing for Error With a Humble Heart

Heresy hunters, “exposed” channels, and constant accusations confuse many believers – this study shows how to test for real error with a humble, healthy heart.

(Acts 17:11: Please learn to do your own Bible studies like this one – here.)

This Bible study on heresy hunters has 3 parts:

An in-depth, life-saving, healthy, unity-creating Bible study addressing “Exposed” – “Heresy Hunters” – “False Teachers” – “Doctrinal Error” – “Accusation of the Believers“ & “Cessationism”

How to maturely navigate and not drink from the raw sewage pipe of accusation, suspicion, doubt, conspiracy theories, and faultfinding (thinking: “that water is pure”) – yet being true to the complete breadth of real truth, love, honor, justice, the actual Jesus & Bible – yet without naïveté, gullibility, and immaturity.

Why Is This Written & Who Is It For?

As a father in the faith to new and old believers I have seen too many go online and get confused by the enemy through all the doubt, suspicion, deception, conspiracies against the pure Words of our beloved Father, Jesus and the Helper, the Holy Spirit as revealed in the Bible. And against ministries and ministers.

Therefore, I have written this to both new and long-time believers, to give guidance, counsel, wisdom, and strength against the schemes of the enemy.

I know this writing is thorough and there are a strong list of good and thought-through sub-subjects – and I am confident this will help you, who are looking for depth, guidance and insight into the will, wisdom, truth, justice, and counsel of our dear fully loving Daddyo.

To Say It Differently, This Is For…

  • … those who have not gone down the path of criticism – to help them not go down that path – but understand it better when they encounter it.
  • … those on that path who are open to being wrong – so they have a level of humility and brokenness (according to Jesus – they need a doctor – as do I – more than anyone).
  • … those who are on that path to read and then they will go hard to work with criticism – and find about 1 million faults (challenge is on 😉 – sadly)

Quick Reference Guide to Test If There Is Error

Look in the Index of This Bible Study If You Need to Dig Deeper in the Topics

  • Understand how the Pharisees thought they were helping God by killing Christians and Jesus
  • Why?
  • The devil and people have not changed since the time of Jesus – or even since the fall. Jesus was not out to accuse the broken – but to seek and save the lost and train some pretty broken and messed-up disciples. He did attack the Pharisees when they came at Him. Ask yourself: If people are the same today (basically) and God is the same today (Hebrews 13:8) – who are the modern day Pharisees? The guilty ones are the “heresy hunters” and “exposed” ministries – and others.
  • Understand if the person doing the accusing is absolutely accurate and truthful or there is broad, sweeping absolute accusations – like either / or statements (as they are always wrong when it comes to people) – not of demons or God. If a person, for instance makes a mistake – does that mean their whole life and ministry are now invalid and from hell and suspicious? No – please read this story of how Paul confronted both Peter and Barnabas (who both had and afterwards still had great ministries: blueletterbible.org and for instance, most believe the letters of Peter – were written after this rebuke (see: this website and this website about that.
  • Find out if the person coming with the accusations have followed Matthew 18:15-20 to the point with the right humble loving believing patient attitude – and this is only the last resort to correct and rebuke them after having done solid work on all 3 steps outlined.
  • Find out if the accusers actually have a cessationist theology – because then an important part of the foundation is just completely off from the outset. They will have a pre-conceived idea that for instance all the power-gifts of the Holy Spirit ceased with the finalization of the writing of the Bible. So, anyone who claims they still exist today and they experience them and practice them are heretical by default in their eyes.
  • Find out if they cut video’s and do not show the videos or texts in their original form in context. Also see if they have actual hard evidence – even tested in court or verified by many trustworthy witnesses. So, find out if they are just casting suspicion and accusation but do not have actual evidence.
  • Find out if the person they are attacking has admitted the mistake and has actually moved on into less error.
  • Does the “accusing” ministry allow for being clumsy, growth, mistakes and being an uneducated person who needs to learn – also from mistakes? Discipleship is at least a 3 ½ year education – and the disciples of Jesus failed terribly – even at the very end of the ministry of Jesus. Meaning: Is there – like there was between Jesus and the disciples – room to fail, but also room to be rebuked, and room to be restored? Is the heart really to help like a good loving parent will do – or merely to point fingers of accusation?
  • Find out if the ministry of this person is more about accusation than actually making real beautiful full-blown disciples – that can do Matthew 10 and Luke 10? For this was the focus of the Master of us all – the Lord Jesus Christ. And if that is not the focus, then they are greatly off themselves in their focus and should look at their own ministry and time consumption first and repent themselves, first.

  • A Bible Study About Bible Study
  • I have written a Bible study about Bible study to help you read what the Bible says about reading and understanding the Bible. It also contains references to solid Biblical based confessions of faith – and many other resources about the reliability of the Bible. Is the Bible trustworthy? Yes 100%!
  • I encourage you to even do your own Bible study about doing Bible study – using the Bible. And I encourage you to the do a Bible study about criticism, faultfinding, accusation, how the Pharisees operated and thought, etc. find Scriptures where Jesus talks about the Pharisaical attitude and the “accuser of the brethren”:

  • Also – if you see yourself as a heresy hunter / exposer of false ministries and ministers and are reading this – you would want to search for my errors there as well – as that is the foundation
  • I would, right off the bat, though, remark that even the attitude that “you are primarily called by God to find errors in others” – more than to spend 95% of your time to train people to go out and make disciples bring life, grace, faith, freedom, and truth – first (then we can deal lovingly and relationally with errors) – is like defining yourself as one of the titles of satan, who is called: “the accuser of the brethren”. Remember when we come to anyone to point out an error our heart attitude and wording should be: I am worth less than you. I am less important and I am much worse than you. If not – our main focus is off. Our main goal of life in Christ is off. What is primary in the life of Jesus is no longer primary to you.
  • Think of a Lego castle or a puzzle: It is harder to love through building up – it is the easiest thing to tear down. It is easier to find faults than to deal maturely with the mistakes of children… To deal correctly with sin in others – please see point 6 below. It’s easier to be a food critic than a chef.

Intro – Preparing Our Heart to Receive Truth

Remember to judge correctly – neither the great prophet Samuel – nor the Pharisees and religious leaders of Jesus’ day knew how to judge correctly every time. See here what happened:

Please read the following to understand where I am coming from in the Bible study and to be sure you have strong Biblical foundations to evaluate and judge well – not the outside – but the heart – like Jesus said. We must come from a truly humble place – using the principles in Matthew 18:15-20 as in the Bible study mentioned above – and know that even great prophets and great scholars got the heart and will of God so very wrong at different times:

  • John 7:24 = Stop judging by mere appearances, but instead judge correctly.
  • 1 Samuel 16:7 = But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Start with Personal Humility

If you are reading this and you are a relatively new Christian – know that I have written this due to experience dealing with new Christians – not because I want to accuse you – but because I want you to receive wisdom early and not fill yourself with the accusation, doubt, critical negative attitude of the enemy – that seems to protect – but does not lead us to be like little children in attitude – trusting our loving Daddyo.

5 Major Distractions and Limiters

I have found there are 5 major distractions and limiters for new and old believers

https://www.blueletterbible.org/niv/mar/4/14-20/

Mark 4:14-20

Please read the above in the Bible. Then read the below:

14 The farmer sows the word. 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown.

As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time.

When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”

The 5 Things That Become Distractions Are Having a Too Big Huge Focus on

Also – are you by the Pharisees of your day accused of being “A wine-drinker and an over eater – friends with sinners and tax collectors”? If you are not – you are probably a self-righteous Pharisee in some areas. We all are in some areas, and we need to repent and humble ourselves – and I must start with myself first!

Now We Go Deep – Are You Sure, You Are Ready for This?

You can see something wrong – like compromise with sin or higher adherence to tradition than the original lifestyle of Jesus – or a lack of deliverance and discipleship and the fear of man. Or you can disagree on the speed of baptism etc. Then you conclude something on that basis.

And you find new ways of doing it that are more true to the Bible and the way of Jesus and the first disciples. AND it WORKS. And you then get confirmed in your beliefs – you are right! It works – and you bear more fruit than the old / traditional churches and Christians.

But you might have some errors with you as well. Like:

  • “baptism saves” (I deal with this in teachings here)
  • “If you have a sinful habit, you are not saved” (dealt with in section 4.c.iii below)
  • You somehow feel you have to go into extreme broad non-nuanced criticism and public exposure and attacking confrontation against everyone who loves the real Jesus, but who you don’t agree with (dealt with here)

A Big Danger When Bearing Much Fruit as a Disciple – Pride

Then out of bearing much fruit – where the next thing after you bear fruit due to genuine faith in action – then you think your entire theology now is correct and endorsed by the Father – due to fruit.

So, fruit, which comes due to faith (not perfect theology and practice) if we are not very very careful – can lead us into both pride, fear of changes, and attack of others who don’t do things like us or who criticize of reject us fully or partly. And now there’s even the bigger twist.

You might feel rejected by other Christians due to false accusations, pride, insecurity, misunderstandings, even certainly from Christians who don’t bear the same big fruit as you, and then – when they reject you – you now counter-reject them. Because: “They started. I do more than them. I bear more fruit.

Where is their similar fruit? I can now do to them what they are doing to me. Now – the attack is on!” You could even call them non-Christians because they are rejecting you and not recognizing the goodness of God through you. So sad! It is childish – not mature reaction patterns.

Grow up – and gently, humbly, fully practice Matthew 18:15-20 – and Matthew 5:23.

Pride tries to come in right after fruitfulness. Inaccurate judgment of counter rejection – right after rejection. Be careful. Serve! Lift up! Take people on the journey you have been on into more fruitfulness.

The Basis of Good Judgment

My own salvation story is that I realized that I became a true born-again Christian when I believed in my heart that Jesus is Lord and confessed Him as my Lord = absolute Leader with my mouth. That is all it takes J to be saved! And it stays that way!

Of course – it has to be real. It has to be genuine from the heart. God knows us (even much better than we know ourselves) – so there’s no point in faking anything before Him. 3 years went by without me getting baptized as a believer.

In those 3 years I led people to faith, spoke in tongues, loved and studied the Bible, healed the sick – and then one day I was asking God what He wanted me to do next – and He clearly said: Get baptized now. Should I have done this immediately I came to faith? Yes.

Was I not a Christian until then? 100% I was a Christian.

In the beginning of my Christian life, I met people who criticized wrongly what I had seen God do in, through, and around me. It was very concerning to me – it affected me – but it did not stop me from going on as a Christian. But as a new Christian – I did not have the experience, nor the strong healthy relationships in Christ, I have now. So, it was harder to resist and figure out what was true.

If you were not born again into the Kingdom in a healthy way (for instance with very religious, hypocritical, and judgmental Christian natural family – or with an understanding that you can do anything you want and there are no consequences) – I encourage you to read my testimony here. It also includes a very important list of the names and character traits of God – and the opposite in the enemy: Article

Please also read my study on studying the Bible well by using tried and true Bible study methods as well as reading the original and still valid confessions of faith that are in that: Article

Please also read one paper I have put out where I evaluate a ministry, which I am very inspired and challenged by, but which I also see some very unhealthy things in – this can help you to not throw the baby out with the bathwater with other ministries and to set the right evaluation criteria for Christian leaders, ministries, churches, and denominations: Word doc

Paul and Jesus exhort us to weigh all words carefully. And to speak the truth in love. I have found that many both Christians and preachers too carelessly use either / or statements – when the accurate truth is to say – both + and.

And too many are bound by fear of man – instead of fear of God. You find out who “your god is” by asking who matters most when you decide what you do.

Are you concerned about what people think about you and your family – or are you really only concerned about what God thinks?

Dictionary to Help

A good dialogue is often based on having the same understanding of the words used. Let’s create eternal Biblical word definitions of who God is. How is He? What could He do today?

To find a list of the many names and characteristics and personality of our Father according to the Bible – please see this link to my coming to faith story here – and see both the characteristics of the God the Father – as well as the opposite characteristics of who Jesus called: “your father the devil” to the Pharisees.

Here is my testimony of faith – and also the lists of characteristics, the dictionary if you will, of both the good good Father and the father of lies (the enemy): Article

Let’s think really clearly about the names of satan. He is “the accuser of the believers” and he was able to quote the Bible – but in a wrong way – both to Eve and even to Jesus. So, let us be so very careful with how we see and judge our brothers and sisters with the Bible in hand.

Truly Understand the Difference Between the Occult and Pure Healthy Doctrine

Occultists, spiritist healers, clairvoyants, reiki healers, witches, and warlocks, and mediums will clearly confess their faith in: Jesus, the Bible, the love of God, God, angels, being nice and loving, protection, Heaven, vibrations, spiritual power, freedom from evil spirits, love, healing of sicknesses, spiritual revelation and insight, what they see as salvation and peace, so close – but a million miles away.

Because it is the counterfeit spiritual reality. They will not understand what Jesus was all about when we specifically mention what the blood of Jesus means, what the cross means, why He died and why that is important.

They would not agree with the virgin birth, and the physical life, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. Why He is the only way to the Father and Heaven. He is the door – the only door.

So, the cornerstone of why we go to Heaven, how God the Father forgives us and is still perfect in holiness is not understood.

So, these are the fake Christs, the demonic doctrines Jesus is warning about – not Christians who make mistakes once in a while – as normal disciples should – doctrinally, in word or deed.

The above should be read and understood when reading this Scripture where Jesus talks to people – who, unfortunately, never knew Him, but claimed they did and even claimed to call Him “Lord” (I used to read occult books and they for instance called Jesus the Lord Maytreya), and they talked about clearing people’s lives and houses from bad spirits.

Here everything fits with that Scripture (which is not targeted toward Christians who are not perfect in seeking the Lord privately):

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Matthew 7:21-23

This does not fit people who are perfect in the eyes of the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit only due to the blood of Jesus. This does not fit people who were born again at least at one time in their lives. What is the will of the Father – that we should believe the one He has sent and get eternal life through that faith.

A Pharisee / Sadducee / Lawyer / Religious Spirit / Perfectionist / Fear of Man

If Jesus dealt with the people and the attitude in the title of this chapter – we will have to deal with them too. So, who are those who criticize the disciples – while “honoring god”:

1 John 4:17 ESV

By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as He is so also are we in this world.

1 John 4:17

John 15:20

Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also.

John 15:20

What is one of the names of satan? “Accuser of the brethren”! blueletterbible.org

If Satan is alive – would He still try all he can to get Christians to accuse “the brethren”? Who is our brother: Jesus is our brother!! I am a brother to another believer!! Even self-doubt and self-criticism comes from the enemy. This even happens in marriages, destroys intimacy with Father God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus. It destroys churches and families, and creates dis-unity, confusion, and problems. But we are called to go against that.

The problem then comes when Christians attack each other in the wrong way – not strictly following the commands of Jesus in Matthew 18:15-20. I am on a mission from God to sharpen up the Christians to do this and do it well.

The essence of the Pharisaical Attitude, Heart & Spirit is that it lifts itself up over and above and against others with a sense of pride and being better than others. It is the exact opposite to: Matthew 7:5 – You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

This attitude is excellent at keeping religious rules that don’t do much good (Matthew 23:23). That is a spirit of religion. It is super concerned about what others might think (Mark 12:12). It is super concerned with reputation – losing status and getting status (Matthew 27:18). It is blind to its own errors and mistakes – will not admit them. Will not lose face, will not repent, is prideful, blind, and stubborn. In Matthew 23 – an entire chapter is devoted to Jesus giving the Pharisees 7 full-blown rebukes.

The Pharisaical attitude has qualities that are very close to the spirit of racism. It is deeply demonic and very deceptive and contains all-inclusive condemning statements like:

  • All people in this group are like that
  • You are always like that
  • And I / we over here, are better (that was never the attitude that was in Jesus)
  • He said: Come with a huge plank – maybe you can remove the speck of dust

The consequence of all this, is that you become a fault finder – which James warns about in his letter. Was that who Jesus, Paul, John & Peter were?

If you have – in some ways – become a Pharisee / Sadducee / Scribe / Lawyer, you are so close to the truth – with good intentions in your own eyes – but so far from the truth – and you end up like the Pharisees in Jesus days – killing what God is doing – like Saul before he became an apostle – with all the right intentions of serving God.

So, it is a spirit of hypocrisy and double standards and here comes the craziest thing in the midst of it all: While they had all these things going on – they thought they were the closest ones to God and they thought that by killing Jesus and his followers – they were doing God a service. They thought they were serving God. But they were actually serving the enemy.

Crazy scary…

The Attitude, Thinking, and Spirit of the Religious Pharisees in Christians

Just to be sure this is clear I will write the same – in just a little different way:

The Pharisaical attitude and thinking, a stronghold of the mind – and a spirit – a demon or more to go with that – of pride and criticism. It is one of self-elevation and self-justification. It is looking down on others who are “not right”.

The problem with pride is that the very foundation of pride is blindness. You don’t see it yourself. You do not admit it, for you don’t see it. Therefore, Jesus had us fasting in secret, praying with genuine heart to heart humility in private, and giving in private.

To continuously break our heart and create humility – and that we live before the Father – the audience of ONE – only.

The Pharisees had good intentions. They wanted to serve God. And they thought they did. But in reality, they killed Jesus – and they killed His followers. Therefore, Paul was blinded for 3 days at his conversion – for he was very blind – while he thought himself, he was seeing!

Jesus said this about the Pharisees: John 9:41

Jesus said, If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

John 9:41

The most terrible of questions remains: Can well-meaning Christians be today’s Pharisees? My answer is a resounding yes – 100%. They are all over the internet – empowered by fear, suspicion, trauma, rejection, seeking recognition and a host of other evil motivators. And they need to repent, deeply.

I myself – all of us need to repent deeply, continually, before our loving Father – to not fall into this attitude – for (Genesis 4:7): If you do what is right, will you not be accepted?

But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

I really do have a “problem”, and that is that I have seen demons cast out of very good Christians – even pastors, leaders, prophets, apostles.

And it started with myself having to get delivered on the basis of deep repentance from an 18-year porn addiction (fuller testimony here), leading me back to self-pity, and to the even deeper and biggest root of rejection that I believed God was doing against me.

So, I have cast demons of perfectionism, religion, pride, shame, guilt, accusation, false doctrine, and unbelief OUT of good well-meaning, born-again, spirit filled, tongue talking, demon chasing, Bible scholar, serving God, Christians!!

And deliverance is a ministry of love, humility, and unity – while also a ministry of authority, displaying the defeat of the enemy and the victory of Jesus and of those who believe in Him.

Demons of perfectionism, demons of Pharisees, demons of pride, demons of shame. The root of rejection. It goes – and demons are attached!

I Repent and Say Sorry!!

I have, due to the Bible study I made on Matthew 18:15-20 discovered, that I also was a religious Pharisee against my church leader and leadership and my church in general in some ways.

I spoke behind their backs – yes, because of hurt and because I felt they rejected me – which they did in some ways. They were far from perfect – but I myself reacted in rejection, self-pity and then counter-rejection and in pride over my fruit. And then they felt rejected by me.

For I rejected them. I stopped loving them fully. Stopped honoring them fully. I was on a fury of childish demonic retaliation and revenge – out of hurt and rejection.

The “Leaven of Herod” / The Political Spirit

“Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and that of Herod.”

Mark 8:15

The Herodians were the believers who were heavy into politics and saw politicians and politics as the primary means of the salvation of the world: britannica.com

It is quite tempting – for great change and power can be wielded that way! But it is NOT the primary foundational HEART and FAITH repentance way of Jesus! Even the best Christian politics do not bring about the deep heart love and repentance – that gets people born-again by the Holy Spirit.

This simply means that Herod – the political power of the day, that we as Christians see politics, the solution to the problems of this world comes through politics, wars, better laws and better public administration. Of course, all things must be done better, at that is great and honorable – but to think that a political system – whatever that system might be (and some are surely better than others) – is the real and best solution to the problems in the world – is simply off.

The kingdom of God, Heaven on Earth – actually Heaven in Earth = the changed heart in all people – with all having a born-again experience and start to have intimate fellowship with their Father – that is the very meaning of life. That changes each individual from the inside out and makes for a better world on the only and best solution for eternity.

Do not fall for the political spirit of the leaven of Herod. Do politics well – in whatever system – and lead all people to a personal friendship with Jesus first – with no close second place at all – and then some even better laws of love, justice, freedom, truth, and honor can be made for all.
