Welcome to the Adventure of Being a Disciple
Welcome to the adventure of being a disciple – a follower of Jesus, our God, Savior, and Master – as He truly was and still is. What if it looked like Mark 3:13-15, Matthew 10:1-42, and Luke 9:1-6 / Luke 10:1-24?
Being a Christian is to be a disciple. Discipleship is a full-blown, lifelong, theoretical and practical, supernatural, relational education – to be exactly like Jesus in being, thinking, speaking, and doing.
You are listening to me, Peter Skov, who had been a Christian for exactly 30 years in February 2024 – but who has only recently begun to see more people than ever before in my life led to faith (even directly from the streets), healed, filled with the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues, baptized and added to the fellowship of the church, and set free from evil spirits.
And I have decided, as Jesus commanded, to give away all that I have for free – so anyone who wants to can learn how I do it. You and I are called by God to make disciples who make disciples who make disciples – just like Jesus did. I am here to enable you to do that.
So welcome to an adventure of deep and real friendship with God the Father, Daddyo; God the Son, Jesus Christ, your brother; and the Holy Spirit, your Helper. This is the very meaning of life. All this is based on the cross of Jesus – where forgiveness was granted, sin was paid and atoned for, love was displayed in full, and the humility of the heart of God was on full display. Welcome to a kingdom with a King who has never rejected you but has always loved you – as proven by the cross. Welcome, therefore, to wholeheartedly following Him, Jesus Christ, as your Master – and to being His disciple.
- Welcome to a journey of inner healing, freedom from trauma, and deliverance.
- Welcome to restoration, freedom, purpose, destiny, and love of God, people, and yourself.
- Welcome to an education and practice for the rest of your life as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
- Welcome to a lifelong journey of getting closer to God, closer to others, and closer to yourself.
- Welcome to obedience out of freedom, out of love, out of grace.
This is a life where you – full of the Holy Spirit, and understanding your authority in the name of Jesus and through faith in action – are enabled, trained, and commanded to see miracles happen through you, and will begin to: healings, prophecies, deliverances – even raising the dead is possible through us as we learn directly from the Master, Jesus Christ. Welcome to the life of Matthew 10 and Luke 10 – where Jesus sent out His disciples to do exactly what He Himself had done – and they came back, and it worked.
Session 1/4: Learning How to Read, Interpret, and Obey the Bible
How do we read and interpret the Bible in the right way? (A good free app: YouVersion – Holy Bible.)
- It is a love letter from God – a manual for life.
- Obedience is key – it’s not about theory, but about being like a child of action.
We use the Discovery Bible Study (DBS) principles as the best way to read and interpret the Bible and to live and grow as a Christian – no matter how many years you have been a Christian (read more about DMM and DBS here). We use Discovery Bible Study as an approach to inductive Bible study for training believers and leaders, not as an approach to evangelism.
Four simple questions to develop a routine of hearing and obeying God
- What does this passage say? (How do I put it in my own words?)
- What is the main principle in this passage?
- What should I do to obey this passage? (How do I apply it in my life?)
- Who can I teach what I have just learned?
This is for your own Bible study, for when you read the Bible with someone – and for corporate gatherings.
Obedience is love (John 14:15-31). Who or what we obey is our true God. All the true commands of God are only love and loving, true, just, and freeing. God essentially wants to set us free to freely choose whether we will love or not.
We choose obedience to God and His loving commands freely – not under compulsion. We choose to obey the commands of God out of love for ourselves, for God, and for others. We choose them for the adventure, the freedom, the fruit. We choose them because He loved us first. We choose them for the exciting, truly fulfilling adventure it is to follow Jesus!!
The good news commonly breaks through not just in words but also in signs, wonders, and power encounters. People discover a living and active God who has the ultimate say. Yet we don’t build people’s faith on miracles but on the abiding truth of God’s Word.
We train people to discover God’s will in His Word and to obey His will as they discover it. This means that, both individually and as a movement, we follow the Bible and the Spirit rather than church tradition and religion. We don’t do what has always been done, which produced little or no results. We let go of traditional patterns when they get in the way of God’s purposes as described in the Bible.
We therefore teach from the Bible: “Don’t have an ordained pastor baptize anybody. Get over that romantic idea. Let the leader of a family baptize. Don’t worry about the old traditional Christian way of doing burial or marriage or a child dedication ceremony. We can do everything biblically in a way that is culturally relevant locally. We all need to keep asking: ‘What does the Bible say about that?’ Find an answer for each issue, then let’s discuss the answer.” With our commitment to simple biblical approaches, we will avoid producing a new church denomination. Instead, we will produce an organic, indigenous, and dynamic movement of disciples who make disciples.
Session 2/4: Learning How to Pray Passionately and in Many Ways – Encountering God
We just looked at reading and understanding the Bible, lovingly doing and obeying what God lovingly commands in it, and sharing what we have learned with others. This, then, is about the most important Christian practice of all.
This is really about the friendship each one of us – you too – was created to have with God directly. Not through any person or thing, but directly with our Dad, our Daddy; our brother; and our Helper and Comforter, the gentle yet super powerful Holy Spirit.
Your own friendship directly with God is the very meaning of life. Personal, real friendship directly with God is the very reason we exist.
The best advice for you here is to keep it real, keep it normal. Treat God like your BEST friend – really. You cannot hide, you cannot lie, you cannot impress. No masks work. Reality works. Repentance works. Honesty works. Only truly relating – heart to heart, sharing, openness, transparency, true willingness – “works.”
He loves us. He loves YOU (and ME) – He always has and He always will – and it is proven forever through the cross of Jesus, the New Covenant in His blood, where He took all our sins on Himself. Jesus took our sin and paid for our transgressions, forgave us, and gave us back our pure, perfect childhood state with Daddyo – exactly like He has and had.
Now this is the foundation for truly, deeply hanging out with God, spending quality time with Him one-on-one!! That is how important prayer is. The one-on-one time between you and your Daddyo is the most important part of the Christian life.
If you want to explore this deeper – and I cannot recommend it enough – please read the Bible study The Secret Place – How to Spend Quality Time With Your Daddyo (Word document · YouTube session). Hanging out with Daddyo (a biblical, affectionate, intimate name for the Father) as a friend one-on-one – nothing can ever replace this. All things become unhealthy if this is not done well, for it is the very meaning of life, the reason we were created by God: true friendship with God the Father, His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Helper and Comforter, the Holy Spirit.
Jesus practiced prayer in many ways
Some of the things we call prayer are not actual prayer, but us ruling, reigning, commanding, taking and using our authority – calling on and implementing the will of God supernaturally on earth, as Jesus did. Jesus talked a lot about prayer – both in the Sermon on the Mount, His biggest and most famous speech, and in many parables and stories. His disciples practiced many kinds of prayer and taught on it.
AGAIN: The biggest deal with prayer is: Be real, be you, don’t try to be religious – or better than you are. If this is not your perspective on the Father, then come into the wonderful truth: The Father really is a perfect, loving Father – you can just run to Him, sit on His lap, and rejoice. The Son truly is your big brother. The Holy Spirit really is your Helper and Comforter, and you ARE able to step into fellowship, friendship, and relationship with your Father, your brother Jesus, and the precious Holy Spirit.
Let’s use what we have just learned about reading, understanding, doing – and telling:
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Matthew 6:5-6
The healthy balance between private and public prayer (good deeds): It’s about your heart. We are not to be seen by people in a way that makes them see us as better than others. That is hypocritical; it is error and pride. We should be seen by people – but only and first as a response to the love of Daddyo. Jesus was definitely seen when He prayed and did miracles. We must ensure THAT they see us pray and do good – SO THAT others glorify our Father in Heaven. If this is healthy in us, neither He nor we will care whether we are seen or not. It is out of love for God, people, and yourself. But it is not wrong that people see it – so that others may see our good deeds and therefore glorify God in Heaven.
There are many kinds of prayer and God-encounters
Prayer is EXCITING. This is where we hang out with God with full focus, meet with God Himself, and have quality time with Him. This is where He especially speaks, and we get led, set free, and directed to His good plans for our lives (always submitted to the Bible). This is where we get our daily agenda, focus, and instructions. This is especially where we find out who we are. For He is ALWAYS with us – He is there with you NOW.
A great fact about prayer: No one in the Bible is ever described closing their eyes to pray. Please go against the stream of tradition. The only small reason to close your eyes during prayer is to avoid distractions, and for little kids to concentrate.
It is important to issue commands of healing and deliverance with your eyes open, because then you can see what happens – what God does, and what the enemy does – while you are commanding. Then you can respond to it. The most biblical “eye posture” while praying is to “look up to Heaven”:
After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.”
John 17:1
And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them.
Luke 9:16
He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”).
Mark 7:34
What Christians call prayer today is not always biblical. We ask God for things He has already done. But really, it is faith that heals – not a certain formula. Yet the way we show faith can display a better understanding of faith, authority, and power.
The types of prayer and faith action Jesus commanded us to practice
These are important, distinct, and great steps to a strong relationship with God in prayer:
- Faith in Jesus – repentance to holiness, fiery rejection of all rejection (all rejection is a lie from the pit of hell – do not accept it as coming from God).
- Baptism in the Holy Spirit, fire, and tongues of fire – speaking in other tongues.
- Baptism in water with full repentance from all sin. Here mighty miracles can happen.
- Prayers for inner healing and spiritual freedom, based on personal repentance.
- Personal prayer with passion and fire – with God speaking to you.
- Confessions of your identity – who we are in Christ Jesus.
- Corporate prayer with passion and fire – with God speaking to you and leading you.
- Commanding “prayer.” Not prayer, but actually speaking by faith in Jesus with the authority He has given us over circumstances, sickness, and demons (Mark 11:23, Luke 10:19, Luke 9:1).
Deeper teaching on all these forms of prayer is available in the extended version: the “Fullness of Jesus” Normal Obedient Discipleship Course.
Prayer must be the very heartbeat of our lives. If it is not, our foundations are off, and we will burn out, crash, and fail. It is a choice we must freely make – whether we will passionately pray, hunger, seek, and thirst for God. So, choose a deep heart thirst for all of Him – permanently.
When we gather as believers in homes, everyone must be allowed to pray. We must not just listen to a leader or the more mature believers pray. Sometimes we do special prayer and fasting with other believers; and it’s always a continual talking with God during all kinds of everyday activities. Prayer is not complicated, and anybody can do it. It’s so simple – for all can have a simple conversation.

Session 3/4: Learning How to Share Your Story
Why learn to tell our story effectively?
They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
Revelation 12:11
We overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus dying on the cross – proving the love of God), by the word of our testimony (sharing our personal God-stories), and by not loving our lives even to death (no fear of people’s opinions or actions; the love, truth, honor, and reality of God are more important to us).
Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
Romans 10:17
Others will believe through the word of Jesus – meaning through encountering the living God, both through what is spoken and what is experienced. So, it is good to spend time telling our story in a good, precise, accurate, enthusiastic, honest, understandable, and strong way. And it is good to pray for people afterward, for them to experience healing, deliverance, prophetic words from Heaven, as well as peace, love, joy, and the power of the Holy Spirit. It is good to get others’ perspectives on our story – how we can upgrade and improve it.
Our story is freshest when it is newest. Our life changes are usually biggest in the first part of our Christian walk. And we usually know the most people who don’t know Jesus yet when our faith is newest – so our story will have the greatest effect in the first year, even though we will be sharing our story of coming to faith, and the miracles we have experienced and are experiencing, for the rest of our lives.
What did Jesus and the disciples do?
We see Jesus sending people straight into their environments – their circles of people they know: friends, family, colleagues, classmates, social media, neighbors – and, extended and God-led, to “people of peace” to share their story, even immediately after they had met Him. I am not saying you should go into destructive environments with temptations you choose to fall to in sin. Jesus said we must not love the world, and we are IN the world – not OF the world. We love the sinner, hate the sin, and help people get free from sin and into love, truth, and freedom if they choose to be willing to receive it – just like God does.
Part of the multiplication of obedient discipleship is also having a “discipler” / mentor (under Christ), who will help you sharpen and clarify your story and, if possible, be with you in situations when difficult questions are asked.
- Think of the woman at the well (John 4:1-42) – she goes straight into her village in Samaria after she has met the Messiah and He has prophesied over her, exposing her sin. She rejoices, repents, and tells all about it, and many come to faith – even after a prophetic word revealing many of her sins. She willingly tells all, for there is no condemnation from Jesus.
- Think of the man set free from thousands of demons (Mark 5:1-20) – Jesus sends him back to tell his deliverance story, even though he begs to stay with Jesus!
- Think of Lazarus, raised from the dead (John 11–12:11) – so many people came to faith in Jesus because of it that the Pharisees now also wanted to kill Lazarus (who had just been dead… 🙂) as well as Jesus.
- Think of all the stories of miracles in Acts (Acts 3:1-4:4) and how people immediately started sharing them – even the conversion of Paul (Acts 9:17-21), and on and on.
Therefore, we want to help train you to share – immediately, effectively, and from your heart – your story of coming to faith and encountering the supernatural love of God with anyone you meet. I wish someone had believed in me, helped me get better at that, and helped me win my friends to Jesus like that.
How may we help you share your story? Good steps to take now:
- Write it down in full length. Get reviews to improve it. Learn how to explain it by reading aloud what you have written. Practice telling the story to both Christian and pre-Christian friends and family – or whoever will listen.
- Write the ultra-short version of 1–2 minutes. Get reviews, read it aloud, and practice telling it in the same way.
- Have someone interview you – asking questions about your story to get more angles and draw out more perspectives.
- Record all three versions with sound and video, as nicely as you can. Maybe you know someone with nice equipment – but you do have a mobile phone to do it with 🙂.
- Upload it to YouTube, Facebook, etc.
- Share it with friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors – both physically and online.
- Invite people to your home to tell them. Invite yourself to other people’s homes and tell them. Invite people to a café and ask if you can share your story with them.
- In the beginning, have the one discipling you help you answer difficult questions people will probably ask – and so you can see how they heal the sick, cast out demons, prophesy, fill people with the Holy Spirit, and raise the dead; find the person of peace and lead them to repentance from sin to the love of God through Jesus; and get them baptized in water and the Spirit.
The facts are in: The testimony of new believers often brings others to faith. As a brand-new believer, you often don’t realize the importance of sharing your testimony, so as your leader, my responsibility is to equip and encourage you to share. Your testimony is simple: your life before Christ, how you met Christ, and what your life is like since you met Christ. Once you learn how to share it, your story often plays the most vital role in bringing others to faith. Consider a flock of sheep: a shepherd takes care of the herd, but reproduction is done by the sheep themselves, not by the shepherd.
We try to focus evangelism on reaching whole families. New believers like you, and old revived believers, tell their family and friends what they are learning and obeying. Mark chapter 5 tells how Jesus delivered a demonized man. As Jesus was leaving the area, the man wanted to go with Him, but Jesus said, “Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you.”
This man had no training. He had never been to Bible school; he had never even attended a church! What was he going to tell people? A personal testimony can be more powerful than all kinds of theological statements and apologetics (knowledge and arguments to defend and support the faith intellectually and scientifically). Speaking from the mind touches the mind, but speaking from the heart touches the heart. When Paul stood on trial (Acts 24:1-26:32), he didn’t use apologetics; he used his testimony. So, we always encourage all people to use their testimony and to get into the habit of sharing with people around them from day one.
Session 4/4: Be Discipled – Disciple Others – to Disciple Others – to…
Jesus calls us to spread the good news of His goodness and grace. To do that well, we must follow Him – and follow others as they follow Him (not when they don’t). So we must follow Jesus directly by reading and doing what He is, does, and says. The church is not a building – it is a family, an army, a group of friends, a gathering of disciples of Jesus, His bride – who work together and help each other to bring the Kingdom of God to earth, defeating the devil and destroying sin, taking personal responsibility to be best friends with Him, obey Him, follow Him, and lead others to do the same.
It helps to have good help from good, genuine, humble, on-fire, experienced disciples to do this. We all need to be in a healthy discipling relationship and to be discipled and mentored.
Multiplication of ourselves is at the heart of God. Jesus – God – the Father and the Holy Spirit were, are, and will forever be all about empowerment: You can do this, and God says: I am with you and will help you. Friendly mutual accountability is at the core here. So, from the start, we want to help you by mentoring you – and for you to start mentoring. All you get is meant to be passed on by you to others. Please begin to think this way: What I get is for me – and for me to give to others.
We practice friendly mutual accountability: first we are accountable to the Lord Jesus Christ, and then to healthy brothers and sisters. Come on the adventure of Matthew 10:1-42 and Luke 10:1-24 – together. Let’s do all that Jesus was, did, taught, and commanded – and that the disciples then were, did, taught, and commanded. That is revival. That is obedient discipleship. That is friendly mutual accountability: to have one or more mentors and disciplers – and to be a mentor and discipler of others.
Join us! Come learn and grow with us in how to seek the Father one-on-one, how to read and obey the Bible – the eternal Word of God – how to share your story and lead people to faith. Learn how to do the miracles. Learn how to hear from Heaven, repent, admit mistakes, and make healthy changes for the better. Learn how to make disciples, cast out demons, raise the dead, heal the sick, prophesy, fill people with the Holy Spirit and fire, rebuke and address sin in humility and love – yet with clarity, boldness, and authority – baptize people in water, and lead people to repentance. Learn how to be a disciple who makes disciples, who make disciples.
The things [the doctrine, the precepts, the admonitions, the sum of my ministry] which you have heard me teach in the presence of many witnesses, entrust [as a treasure] to reliable and faithful people who will also be capable and qualified to teach others. (AMP)
2 Timothy 2:2
He went up on the hillside and called those whom He Himself wanted and chose; and they came to Him. And He appointed twelve [disciples], so that they would be with Him [for instruction] and so that He could send them out to preach [the gospel as apostles—that is, as His special messengers, personally chosen representatives], and to have authority and power to cast out demons. (AMP)
Mark 3:13-15
And the same in Luke 10:1-24 – the calling of the 70 others – again to do the same. And to do it everywhere: on the streets, in gatherings of the saints, at parties, out shopping, out eating, etc.
Let’s be “others” together and live this discipleship life. Don’t let the enemy lie to you and take that away from you. Do not agree with the enemy in your mind or words that this cannot be done – for ANY reason. The Bible literally says: Nothing is impossible for the one who believes, and nothing is impossible for God. We have been given power to heal and authority over all the power of the enemy. The way to turn it into action is humility, bold action, time, perseverance, and childlike, simple obedience – also when things don’t seem to work as we expect. Then keep going in obedience.
This can be done. You can multiply yourself – if you are willing to be obedient. Yes – there is a learning curve; that is what discipleship is all about. So, choose to be in an intentional relationship for discipleship, multiplication, growth, and strength. This will accomplish strong mutual learning for both the discipler and the disciple. Find someone to pass on to others what you have learned – even how to lead a home church group.
A culture of empowerment
Because God is like this, we will have a culture of empowerment:
- We encourage all new believers to share the good news.
- We will model for you how to start new worshiping communities (not just one – but many).
- We will empower you, help you, equip you with tools and teaching, model it before you, and give you our friendship and a mentoring, discipling relationship – to start new groups immediately.
We will watch over and release you as new disciples to lead the new groups you start. It may sound strange to say that “new disciples start new worshiping communities immediately.” But we believe in entrusting ministry to imperfect people. If you are willing to grow, repent, and own your mistakes, you can do that – as you also minister and help others. Jesus taught the same things to all 12 apostles, including Judas, knowing he would betray Him. He taught the same things to Peter, knowing Peter would deny Him. Yes, all of them deserted Him in the end. But all except Judas came back stronger after they repented. So, irrespective of the results, we will teach you, our disciples, what God has assigned us to teach. We don’t wait for the perfect situation and the perfect people.
Groups that hold a high standard of qualifications for service always experience relatively slow growth. Jesus didn’t wait for perfection before entrusting ministry, so why should we stress out when the people we disciple aren’t yet perfect? Are we even perfect ourselves? No. More mature, stronger, wiser, more experienced, more holy and knowledgeable in different ways – yes – but perfect? Not yet. Only ONE is perfect.
- First, Jesus handed ministry to His disciples and empowered them, in spite of all their limitations and imperfections.
- Second, we will empower grassroots leadership at the local level and assist local leaders in starting new worshiping communities. We will not establish work dependent on outsiders, which would leave the work vulnerable. Empowering local leaders brings local ownership, resulting in long-term viability and multiplication.
- Third, we empower and equip all believers to do ministry in Jesus’ name. This means no clergy/laity distinction. We are not dependent on a paid and educated minister, priest, or pastor. We avoid the mindset of positional leadership and don’t call our staff “Reverend,” “Priest,” or “Pastor.” When we connect with new people, we ask to call each other “brother” or “sister.” If people call you by a title, they won’t fully open up to you, and they will let you do the things they should be trained to do themselves. If they call you “brother,” they will be more open to share and to take on responsibility. It becomes a personal relationship rather than a formal one.
Intentional planting and reproduction
We practice intentionality in:
- Sharing the good news,
- Making disciples, and
- Planting home church groups.
All three need intentionality. They don’t happen automatically. We will intentionally produce disciples who produce disciples and plant churches in their homes that plant churches in their homes.
This DNA has resulted in church multiplication beyond 20 generations. It gets passed on not through packaged information but through a shared lifestyle. Everything hinges on intentional discipleship. Lack of clarity about discipleship results in failure.
A lot of churches don’t have a clear idea of how to make a disciple. How sad, since Jesus’ last command to us was “Make disciples of all nations (all groups of people)” (Matthew 28:18-20). McDonald’s has no confusion about how to make a burger. If you ask any worker at McDonald’s how to make a burger, they’ll give you a clear, simple answer. But if you ask most Christians how to make a disciple, you’ll likely get either a blank look or a rambling, complicated answer. Discipleship happens best in an apprenticeship relationship – the most effective model for training and learning in all kinds of fields. Doctors, carpenters, teachers, and businesspeople all learn through apprenticeship. It’s a lifestyle, not a curriculum: not a course, but showing people how to do something and doing it together in everyday life. That kind of discipleship enables effective leadership transitions. We don’t worry about someone “taking over” for a leader, because we constantly mentor new leaders in their own context.
We multiply ourselves instead of keeping the work focused on ourselves and hoping to pass it on to one other person. Jesus used this approach: He passed His ministry on to many, not to one. We aim for decentralized multiplication, not building ourselves up as a center of power. This intentionality in discipleship and church planting results in effective reproduction.
Now understand, pray, and take action
- Now – who can you learn this from one-on-one?
- Now – who can you give this to?
- Now – who can they give this to? – and onward.
