God Encounter Manual: How to Heal the Sick
Please read these Scriptures
Psalm 30:2, Matthew 15:26-28, Matthew 10:8, Matthew 15:30, Acts 5:12-16, Luke 1:37, Luke 10:1-23, Mark 9:23, Hebrews 13:8, James 5:13-15, Matthew 10:1-42.
Theological basis (the consequences of the Scriptures above)
Jesus said in the Lord’s Prayer that we should pray that His will be done – on earth as it is in heaven. There is no sickness in heaven!! Jesus healed all (!!) who came to Him when He was on earth. There is nothing that is impossible for God and nothing that is impossible for the one who believes!! Jesus took all sin and sickness on Him on the cross!!
What if people do not get healed? We continue to go for God’s creative miracles. We also trust doctors, and we comfort those who struggle and are there for them through the battle. We who pray need to grow and get better at following the leading of the Holy Spirit through practice, fasting, worship, and praying in the Spirit. No matter what – we should show compassion, care, and love for those who are sick.
The amazing consequences
Jesus wants to use all of us who believe in Him to heal people in His name, through His power given to us through the Holy Spirit and the dominion authority we have in His name. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. You (!) can and should heal the sick – because Jesus and the Holy Spirit are the same inside and for every believer. Our responsibility is to believe in, speak of, and act on what He said. We will not see everyone get healed all the time – only Jesus did that – but it will happen more and more as we follow the guiding of the Holy Spirit more and more.
Action Steps to Experience Miraculous Healings
- Realize: Jesus and the disciples never prayed for God to heal the sick! Many Christians do – and it is not the best way, the way shown us! Instead:
- Talk in faith about how you believe Jesus can heal the sickness and how He has done it before. Say it is easy for Jesus to heal. You are welcome to use anointing oil.
- Command briefly and quickly the sickness to be healed / gone, or the spirit of sickness to go. Healings do not come from long prayers but from faith expressed in word and action.
- Immediately ask the person to check the pain – move the body – to act in faith. Help them test it. Ask how it is going.
- If the pain / sickness is not gone yet – offer to pray a second time. Again, ask them to check.
- Offer to pray a third time, thanking God for His healing to start.
- If they have been healed and are not yet Christians – offer to lead them to Jesus to receive Him as Lord and Savior.
- If they receive Jesus – offer to pray for them to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
- If they are with you so far – lead them to get baptized, and make sure to connect them with you and the life of the church: connect groups, teams, events, etc.
How to Heal the Sick in Jesus’ Name
Since I regularly see people get healed in Jesus’ name, I want to let you know my thinking around it. First: I am NOT special, and I have NOTHING that you do not have as well. I have no special gift of the Holy Spirit for it (see my theology of the gifts of the Holy Spirit here: Are All Supernatural Power Gifts of the Holy Spirit for Everyone?).
I have the command of God to do it. I have the name of Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit, faith, and action. 95% of the time I personally feel nothing special at all when someone gets healed. I go by the general, permanent command of God to do it, by my desire to be used by God – and by the need of the people.

Debugging and demystifying how to heal the sick in Jesus’ name
It is actually not difficult. Little children can do it! You can do it too – as you become a simple child who simply trusts = does what the Father lovingly commands. But make a deep-level life decision to rip through and do this – come hell or high water.
- Decide that you are going to be obedient to Jesus to “heal the sick” (Matthew 10:8). Ask God for compassion for the sick! Spend quality time with the Father – listening to the still small voice of the Holy Spirit. Sickness is NOT from God. There is no sickness in Heaven, and Jesus told us to pray: Your will be done – on Earth as it is in Heaven.
- Tell a super short story of someone else who has just been healed. Why? Faith comes by hearing (for you and the recipient)!
- Give a short command to be healed in Jesus’ name – do not ask God (Jesus and the disciples in the Bible never asked God for healing – they commanded people to be healed).
- Make it short – like one short sentence. Be bold and clear.
- Immediately ask the person to test how it feels now. Ask them to do what they couldn’t do before. Tell them to be honest and report on a scale from 1–10 how it is now and how it was before. Why? Faith is proven in action. Often this is where they are actually healed – when they act to test!
- If not completely healed – ask if you can command it again (Jesus once had to command twice – so I am fine with having to do it seven times). Seek the leading of the Holy Spirit as to how to do it. Jesus used mud!, oil, told people to go wash, told people to “get up,” commanded sickness to go, stuck His fingers in people’s ears (no healing was the same).
- Also go for demons of sickness – by commanding the demons of sickness to leave in Jesus’ name.
- If nothing happens – take it on yourself to get better. Do not say to them: “You have too little faith.” It’s on you to get closer to the Father, to be more led by the Holy Spirit, to get more bold faith. All who came to Jesus were healed. He only did what He saw the Father doing. He is perfect, we are not – but we stretch to grow. Often the person being prayed for, even if they are not healed, will be happy for the care shown through the prayer.
- Keep going, praying = commanding the sick to be healed. The command of God will always be there for us to do it. Decide that you are OK with going for this – even if you only see healing in 1 out of 50 or more. There is an element of endurance and tenacity in seeing miracles like this happen as well.
- Do not get condemned if you do not do it when you could have. I do not always do it as I should. This life is all by grace and only by grace. We are all broken – nothing and no one is completely perfect here. All is under sin. Anything good and perfect is from the Father. When you fall – get back up. Analyze, recommit, command spirits of condemnation to go. Reconnect with the Father – run into His loving arms. Reconnect with the perfect, eternal New Covenant, paid in full by blood, death, rejection, and obedience – reseal your heart and mind through sonship, daughtership, and friendship.
Let’s do this 🙂!!
