Who can do deliverance, and who can benefit from getting prayers of deliverance & inner healing from traumas etc.?
Can anyone do deliverance?
YES – the 70 “others” – the nameless and faceless in Luke 10:1 proves so – and so do many other Scriptures (Eph 1:3, Eph 4:11-13, Luke 10:19). We must be so very careful not to limit anyone from doing all that Jesus commanded (Matt 28:19-20). Christians, churches, leaders and denominations have done this for centuries – and it creeps in so very quickly. If I was the enemy – I would do all I could to limit as many Christians as possible.
AND: Firstly – getting prayers for deliverance does not / should not hurt anyone – if done in a Biblical & healthy way. So, if there is no need for it – nothing bad happens because it is done. So, give it a chance and a go to check if there is actually something there. Many will very likely be surprised – also good, loyal, faithful Christians – will benefit extremely from going through a complete deliverance inventory session – just like this great normal Christian Danish lady who was set free from – delivered from – both a generational curse and a spirit of sickness = sclerosis: Helbredt for Sklerose – Birte Slot Henriksen
If nothing comes out of it – great! If something is “biting” – how good is it get freedom through deliverance? The demons are extremely good at hiding, confusing, depressing, lying, stealing, causing sickness, fear, giving half-truths…
Here is another very strong story of a Christian, Rodney Hogue, a pastor, getting set free – who now has a PHD from a Methodist seminary: (6) He Casts DEMONS Out Of CHRISTIANS! – YouTube
He is an often used guest lecturer at Bethel Bible College in Redding.
Is this even important?
Secondly – and this is so important. Many Christians need deliverance at some level and will struggle to enter into freedom and strong discipleship until they do! Jesus never told us not to do deliverance on believers and He never told us not to do it on non-Christians. He Himself, and His disciples even did successful deliverance on people who were not born again – yet.
So, also, non-Christians can benefit from and receive deliverance. Jesus Himself, as well as all his followers set people free from demons who were not born again by the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus never told us not to do deliverance on non-believers or kids. He, himself set several kids free from evil spirits – both remotely and “closely”.
Why do this here and now?
As I have investigated the area of healthy modern-day deliverance I have even with my own eyes witnessed how many even good Christians in leadership, speaking in tongues, loving, and worshipping Jesus – need real Bible style deliverance!
How to know if someone could need deliverance
Not all of these are 100% equal to: You need deliverance. But If someone – whether Christian or not, experiences some of these things – they easily could. There could also be other physical causes.
- Evil / Scary / Sexual dreams at night
- OCD = compulsive / obsessive thoughts
- ADD / ADHD – confusion, scattered thoughts – lack of self-control.
- Hearing voices / Schizophrenia
- Sin (any kind), which you find it very hard or feel it is impossible to break free from
- Sicknesses – almost any kind could be spiritual (for instance asthma, allergies, sclerosis, fibromyalgia, imbalances, cancer, “mystical moving pain” – could all be demonic)
- Supernatural abilities (all need to be tested to see if they are truly of the Holy Spirit – and not demonic)
- Rebellion
- Gender identity issues
- Pride
- Anger
- Narcissism
- Have you been involved in the Occult, other religions, witchcraft, the New Age, or masonry or is it in your lineage down the generations before you – then prayers should be prayed breaking the curses from there
- Do you have any occultic items – they should be burnt / disposed of
- Is there non-logic fear in your life – for anything. Check for demons and roots.
- Sexuality.
The full list of things under this topic is very long. Please see a much longer list in this: Spiritual Freedom Intake Form: Referenced deliverance manual (Word)
Basic theology of practical deliverance
Please read the extended version here: Extended theology of deliverance (Word)
- If you need deliverance – that does not mean you are not a Christian? Every time you read the word “possessed” in the English Bibles – please translate it “demonized” = influenced by demons, as that is what the Greek word literally means.
- When we change that word in the translations – it will really help us – also to establish a healthy theology of deliverance.
- Deliverance can take a while and require many sessions and hard work for you needing deliverance and for those praying for you. It can also be very quick and swift. The more we all wholeheartedly seek and submit to Jesus and are quick to repent from all and any sin, with no manipulation – the better we are and the faster we all get truly free.
- Deliverance is not a replacement for personal faith, total repentance, total personal responsibility of sin and rebellion, hurt, unforgiveness etc.
- Deliverance is not a replacement for personally renewing our minds with the Word of God and identity of God and taking every thought captive to obedience under Christ and the truth of the World of God.
- We need to absolutely hate and abhor any sin, rebellion, disobedience, self-indulgence and we must love purity, holiness and friendship with Daddy, Jesus and fellowship with the Holy Spirit.
- The better the team doing deliverance are at hearing from the Holy Spirit – the faster the deliverance.
- Healthy rules for deliverance
- Do not take pharmaceutical drugs from anyone – let the doctors do that
- Do not minister to minors unless the parents are ok with it – preferably the parents being present
- Do not minister alone to the other gender – and do not meet and minister alone with one of the other gender (Billy Graham rule)
- Let people themselves throw anything out that is or could be occultic.
- Ask if it is ok to record the session with sound or even video. Why?
- It gives safety – so there is evidence of what happened
- They can learn from it
- The team can learn from it
- They can use it as a testimony to their friends and family
- You can use it – with their written permission – to give glory to God and show the reality of the supernatural to the world
- There are 3 types of “prayers”
- Talking with God and asking things from God as a dialogue. Many Christians get this confused with the below and virtually never practice the below.
- Commands and actions in faith over demons and situations
- Commands: Jesus and the disciples commanded over situations like weather, sicknesses and demon spirits and gave us the same authority. We need to step out in faith and as much as possible under the leading of the Holy spirit and do the same.
- Commands + Action: Jesus and the disciples also both spoke and did acts in faith and led by the Holy Spirit – like raising someone up by the hand, throwing your body on someone, smearing mud on someone, hands on or oil on or shadow or handkerchief on someone.
So many Christians need to be shown how to do point 8.b. Probably most don’t know how to step into this type of faith by commanding and demonstration and action under the leading of the Holy Spirit.
