How to Stay Focused on the DMM–CPM Model and Why

|

This teaching explains the DMM (Disciple Making Movement) and CPM (Church Planting Movement) models, and why Peter Skov keeps disciple-making central to ministry.

First, definitions

  1. DMM (Disciple Making Movement) / CPM (Church Planting Movement)
    1. DMM & CPM are virtually the same. They focus on obedience to the fullness of all the commands of Jesus, including all commands to all Jesus’ disciples in Matthew 10 and Luke 10. They focus on being disciples, who make disciples, who make disciples, who…, primarily seeking God wholeheartedly, personally, hearing from Heaven, then going out, finding the persons of peace and primarily utilizing our homes, and then their homes as “churches”. DMM / CPM is about healthy exponential multiplication from God to me, then from person to person, home to home, public gathering to public gathering, and movement to movement.
  2. Fullness of all fullnesses
    1. Within the trinity of Father, Daddy, Jesus, Son and brother, and Holy Spirit and our lives the Word there are many areas of truth and within each there is a growing fullness of revelation of truth. This is the goal that we would live as we are – the sons of God on the earth and that we would outlive all the truths in the Word of God – positively proactively growing into Him, Christ, in whom we live and breathe and have our being.
  3. Evangelism versus disciple making
    1. Traditionally Christians and churches have “evangelized”, they have not discipled. It’s pretty much the difference between a one-night stand and a marriage and family. Evangelism has been – say a quick prayer – you are now a Christian – vs. welcome into my life, my home, my family as a friend, brother / sister. You are a newborn – and we will take care of you as best we can.

Why do we want ourselves and as many as possible to put their energy into the DMM / CPM model?

Because we believe, if it is done right, it is stronger, more fruitful, more Biblical, and leads to healthier faster revival over time – also in the global West / Industrialized countries and cultures. We believe it enables real exponential multiplication – not just addition.

The Temptation To Not Go Deeper Into The Fullness Of All Fullnesses Is Real

When we are drawn to more traditional “come to church”, to “attend church”, to “bring people to church”, to “let the ministers do the work of ministry”, to “just enjoy church”, to “be on a team”, to not focus on discipling disciplers who disciple disciplers under the fullness of obedience to all the commandments of Jesus (Matt 28:18-20, Matt 10, Luke 10 etc.)… What do we do?

Not Against Big Nice Public Meetings

The big weekly culturally relevant public meetings with miracles, teaching, and fellowship are great and attractive. Jesus, the 12 and Paul went to the public meetings and they were fruitful (Matthew 4:23-24, Acts 2:42-47, Acts 20:20). The same goes for big yearly camps – which can be compared to the feasts of Israel. The big public gatherings – with great miracles happening as well as teaching, worship etc. can and should add value to the DMM / CPM model – and are great tools for evangelism – but can, if we are not very careful, and if the main focus is there, cause us to fall partially asleep as compared to the personal responsibility to choosing the fullness of obedient discipleship journey that Jesus calls us all into.

Let’s Not Fall Asleep – Let’s Practice Fullness

The influence of the old, the existing – is constant and both obvious and subtle. Please consider this fact: What we fill ourselves with in terms of input of teaching and practice – we become. We are all influenced by influencers – and we, ourselves, influence others – constantly. This cannot be un-chosen. Those who we put on stage before ourselves – those are the lives of whom we will naturally imitate. What if they do not personally practice and train others to do Matthew 10 and Luke 10? Then we will not do it – like they do not do it. The temptation of the easier Christian life, the “less than” original suffering discipleship, the “less than” fullness of obedience to all the commands of Jesus, is there both in example and word by both leaders and followers – all the time. So, let’s be conscious of who we put before ourselves as examples of how to live. Let’s choose to let ourselves be challenged by those who live out various parts of the fullness we see in Jesus. YouTube is crazy good at letting us choose this. Choose wisely who you are inspired by. Choose people who follow Jesus in all His fullness. Follow people who raise the dead, heal the sick, and cast out demons, and prophesy in a healthy way. Follow people who go out and find the person of peace. Follow people who open up their homes, who baptize people in water and Holy Spirit. Follow people who challenge you to grow into believing who are doing what you see Jesus doing. Be trained by the fullness of the 5-fold ministry gifts of Jesu – the Apostles, the Prophets, the Evangelists, the Pastors, the Teachers.

The Consequences Both Now And Forever Are Real

We, of course, do go to Heaven simply through faith in Jesus if we do not outlive exponential fullness of discipleship multiplication principles. But the second judgment, the life evaluation and rewards will be better if we outlive the exponentially very eternally fruitful principles there (Matthew 5:19-20, Matthew 19:27-29, Mark 10:28–31, Luk 18:28–30, teaching on the first and second judgment: https://1drv.ms/w/s!AjvPa8m88R2BjYcbutD_P12gj-8asg).

How do we stay focused and not lose too many people to the “old wineskin” way?

  1. Do not unjustly criticize the old. Be able to see and speak of the good things, the good parts everywhere – also in the old – as well as the good things – and the bad things – with fair accurate justice about both the old and the new. But continue to see an even better way (Luke 5:37-39).
  2. Focus on good stories, testimonies, of the fruit of the new – inspire by positive envy through bearing much truly healthy fruit (Revelation 12:10-11).
  3. Do not bring people in to lead evangelism – who believe in the old – and who do not live in healthy fruit-bearing multiplication local discipleship (1 Corinthians 11:1-2).
  4. Be aware of who we are listening to – and from which perspective they come. On purpose, being self-aware of the influence of the input we are responsible to choose, choose to mainly be filled with input around exponential discipleship multiplication (Hebrews 13:7-8). Be self-aware of areas in obedience to the fullness of Christ where you are personally lacking in understanding, practice, and obedience – and then take responsibility for yourself to fix that lack by listening to people who understand and do what you don’t yet.
  5. Be aware of time consumption. Are we mainly focusing on discipling disciplers to disciple those who disciple – or are we doing addition ministry (2 Tim 2:2)?
  6. Key words and principles to outlive: Patience. Persistence. Endurance. Faith. Wisdom. Shrewd and innocent. Obedience. Fullness. Miracles. Focusing on principles. Not controlling, but releasing, equipping, empowering, authorizing. Keeping it simple and strong, yet with wisdom and depth (Character of God Bible study: https://1drv.ms/w/s!AjvPa8m88R2Bjo9G0s4K2fXpUHTK1Q).
  7. Be aware to lift up before you – through what you privately choose to listen to in your headset – those who do the parts of what Jesus did – that you do not yet do. And then do it – knowing it is a journey of learning, failures and successes. Ensure your own discipleship education plan represents the fullness of the discipleship plan of Jesus (Ephesians 4:11-14).
  8. Consequence: Let’s time prioritize this in our lives: Get busy hanging out with our best Friends, Daddy God, our bro’ Jesus, and Holy Spirit, seeking God through prayer and the Word. Let’s read how Jesus did things and learn to do things like He did. Let’s gladly obey Matthew 10 and Luke 10, personally finding people of peace, taking them in, going to their place, helping them follow Jesus, helping them multiply etc. etc. Obedience looks like your priorities changing, relationships changing, and your weekly schedule changing – just like it does when you get married, have babies, switch jobs and move.
