Supernatural Public Ministry Online and Live, Part 2 – Public Miracles, Fear of Man, and the Cost
Public miracles drew the crowds to Jesus – Part 2 looks at why healing and deliverance were done openly, the fear of man, backlash, and the real cost of following Him.
(Acts 17:11: Please learn to do your own Bible studies like this one – here.)
This study on supernatural public ministry has 3 parts:
- Part 1 – Foundations and Why Jesus Did It Publicly
- Part 2 – Public Miracles, Fear of Man, and the Cost (you are here)
- Part 3 – GDPR, Recording, and Decisions of Action
(Continued from Part 1.)
From God’s Perspective – Why Do Deliverance, Dead-Raisings, Tongues, Healings, Prophecies etc. Publicly?
In the end of the day – God is glorified, when we as His kids represent the truth of the fullness of the reality of our lives, including the presence and power of God, including our sins, fully and correctly. That makes His grace and restoration even bigger.
Jesus used His good supernatural works to argue He should not be killed. They were part of proving who He was. It is the same today. The big good supernatural works today are there to prove who we are and Who we represent and Who God is.
John 10:32 “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” See the whole context in John 10:30-39.
Paul spoke of himself in similar terms:
I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done – by the power of signs and wonders, through the power of the Spirit of God. So, from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the good message of Christ.
Romans 15:18-19
Bottom Line with Jesus’ Example
Jesus didn’t hide away anything that He taught and did (John 18:20-23).
People met Jesus and the power of Holy Spirit and got what was needed when they met Him, where they met Him – also if that meant deliverance from demons in the middle of the crowd or a strong correction in the middle of a crowd. Ministry was immediate – it was NOW.
Wherever Jesus came – it seems He “thought” He was Lord, God, and Boss… and He simply “took care of needed business” where He was and where people were.
Jesus and Holy Spirit and Father – as the disciples after Him, did everything 100% publicly. Of course, there were trainings and times with the 3 and the 12 and the 70 that were just for them to build the relevant team to serve and exponentially multiply as well as having prayer meetings. But that is not when and where the bulk of the supernatural ministry took place.
The Nature of the Leading of Holy Spirit in Fullness of Power
Let’s say that at a meeting – someone who had no leg or no arm or no nose or ear – that it grew out in front of everyone transmitted globally live – and that it happened many times in one meeting. And the same for the dead being raised.
And the same regarding prophetic words – like the woman at the well – who was exposed by Jesus with the fire of His total love and acceptance – to have had 5 other men and who was living with someone whom she was not married to – and then exclaimed: You are the Messiah.
And then a revival started as she told all in town!
And Jesus who prophesies to Nathanael: “I saw you under the fig tree.” And Nathanael who proceeds to believe in Jesus, and Jesus essentially says: You ain’t seen nothing yet (John 1:50-51).
What’s not to like about major miracles drawing people to exclaim: God is truly among you!
We can purge our churches from the miracles that are harder to understand. But that was not what Paul intended in 1 Corinthians 14 – it was to ensure we take the time to explain – like Peter did on Pentecost in Acts 2 – straight into the heart of the people there – what is going on and how to respond correctly to the manifestation of the presence, power, and love of God.
Why does Jesus, led by Holy Spirit, seeing what the Father does, perform all kinds of miracles anywhere and everywhere at any time? To prove He is our loving Boss, God, King, Creator, who is able anywhere, everywhere, and at all times through people who will believe, receive, and act!
I Believe
Either we open up to the fullness of the manifestation of the manifold expression of Holy Spirit – or we limit Him, grieve Him (Ephesians 4:30). He wants to help all with exactly what they need. If they need healing – then healing. Deliverance, then deliverance. Wisdom – then wisdom. Holy Spirit baptism – then that. Dead-raising – then dead-raising. Prophecy – then prophecy.
Deliverance is a GOOD NORMAL thing to Jesus. The same with being raised from the dead etc.
100% Public Miracles in the Bible – And Many of Them with 100% Identifiable Names and Places
- Demons were cast out 100% very publicly by Jesus (Mark 1:27, Matthew 15:31, Mark 9:14-29) and His disciples in Acts (Acts 5:14-16, Acts 16:18, Acts 8:6-8). And it led to freedom and revivals.
- People were raised from the dead in full public view (Luke 7:11-17, John 11:1-48 – 12:9-11) – so did His disciples (Acts 20:9-10). And it led to revivals.
- People were killed by Holy Spirit through Jesus, Dad, and Spirit in full public view (Acts 5:1-11).
- People were healed in full public view (John 6:2, Matthew 4:23-25 (the Sermon on the Mount is for the great crowds that came because of the miracles).
- People were drunk and behaving as if they were drunk in regular alcohol. But it was in the new wine of the Spirit – 100% publicly before non-believers (Acts 2:12-18).
- People were filled and refilled with Holy Spirit publicly (Acts 2:12-18, Acts 10:1-48).
- People were baptized privately and publicly – immediately (no Scripture references needed – there are many).
Jesus Didn’t Pull People Aside for “Private Sessions”
Jesus didn’t pull people aside to do “private sessions” except for when there was too much chaos around Him or when He wanted the miracle rumor mill to calm down, so He could walk around freely where He wanted and so the Pharisees did not want to kill Him too much too soon, or if there was very little faith (Mark 7:31-37, Mark 8:22-26).
So – what if … we truly, fully let the Holy Spirit lead and guide and He comes upon people and they get drunk, get delivered, get raised from the dead in public – whatever is needed in the situation (1 Corinthians 14:12)?
And since I believe we are to take initiative as well in obeying Matthew 28:18-20, Matthew 10, Luke 10 & Acts 13-16 today: Heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons.
Freely you have received – freely give – then I believe in making the decision to go public with this – just like going public with an invitation for salvation, rededication and coming back to the first love.
Is the reality not rather than pre-shutting it down – grieving the Holy Spirit and what He wants to do – that we should see that as a great opportunity to lead people to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ?
And we should take as well care of the people who are manifesting demons as we possibly can! Yes – 100%.
The Heart of Doing This
The heart of doing this is NOT for show and ridiculing shame – but for love, freedom, and exposing the truth of the reality of the soul and evil demonic spirit realms – as well as even more – the beautiful truth of the power of the love of God over all demons – and the loving call of Daddy God for us to come to get forgiveness and restoration from Him – which we deeply need.
At the time of Jesus and the time of Azusa street and the Voice of Healing revival in the 50s – and with Carlos Anacondia, Reinhardt Bonnke, Charles Ndifon and Roger Pedersen with Åndernes Magt on TV2 Zulu – miracles attracted people to church. The hiding away of this needs to end.
Personal Story and Testimony
It was not until I saw live actual online deliverance via Zoom – sent out to YouTube – of normal Christians that I really began to see the huge great need for this ministry. To see ministry and miracles done live with your own eyes changes you deeply – if your heart is open.
I really deeply woke up and “came home” more when I saw deliverance being done “live” over Zoom – in front of a possibly global audience. I was like – wow! This is absolutely undeniably real! Let’s do this. It’s obvious that this is so needed. This will set people free. The supernatural power and authority of God demonstrated – as proof that Jesus is KING over demons in trapped Christians’ lives as well as pre-believers!
The Fear of People’s Opinions (Fear of Man)
We fear what people will think – more than obeying what God thinks. We then fear people. We do then not fear God. We then weigh higher what people think than what God thinks first. This is a trap of sin. We cannot serve the opinions of people. For people can be wrong and many times are wrong. Then the result is that we are unable to serve and obey God fully. What we obey is our true God.
Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.
Proverbs 29:25
Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!
Acts 5:29
Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
John 12:42-43
Many Leaders and Believers Say: Jesus Never Sought People Out to Do Deliverance – They All Came to Him
I have heard this sentence from several pastors and Christian leaders now. Therefore, many Christians must think the same.
In the perspective that “I will only deal with the demonic if it happens to show up” – and if your MO already is that you do not believe demons need to be cast out of Christians, and they are super “rare”, and you have a very low understanding of the subject, this then automatically becomes a rare thing.
And it then looks like I, Peter Skov, “seek out demons”. I do believe that part of what the Father showed Jesus – was to go to this place to do this or that and that included deliverance when needed.
I do not get where they get the idea from that Jesus did not go to seek to set people free from demons (except maybe from below, hell / demons – for it is opposite of the Bible). Jesus specifically sought out the one man in the Gadarenes and the two men in the Gadarenes (maybe it was the same episode somehow – but that is not important).
Please read it yourself here:
Matthew 8:23-34, Mark 4:35-5:20, Luke 8:22-39.
Jesus Also Went to Specific People and Places
Also – we need to simply see all the expressions of the gifts of Holy Spirit as different expressions of the same Spirit and they function similarly – by His leading to meet the needs bringing maximum benefit. So, Jesus specifically went to raise Lazarus at the right time (John 11:6). Jesus “had to go through Samaria” to meet and prophesy over the woman at the well (John 4:4-6).
The sentence in the title here is a false dichotomy. It is not either-or – it is both-and. Just like the devil twists Scripture to be either – or in the temptations of Jesus. People came to Jesus for healing. Jesus also went to specific people and places and did healings, deliverances and other miracles.
The Fear of Backlash – The Protection of Our Reputation and the Reputation of Others
We cannot love our lives or our dignity or reputation over our obedience to God. We try to protect people’s reputation on earth – while what we should do is to lift up and protect the only true reputation that is worth anything – the reputation in Heaven (and hell – Acts 19:15-16).
We have to ask ourselves: Are we really trying to protect the reputation of people against people who have no eternal significance? God already knows all. All the filth. All the demons. All the sin, shame, guilt. So, nothing to reveal and expose there before the one before Whom it really matters. What we should expose is:
- How the enemy operates.
- The reality of sin and demons – also in Christians.
- The reality of the power of Holy Spirit and the authority in the name of Jesus over demons, sickness, and healing of deep trauma.
- The reality of the freedom found in Jesus Christ.
- The reality of the love of Daddy perfected and revealed, proven in the cross.
Our intention should never be to shame anyone – but to show how God works wonders – even publicly – like Jesus very clearly did. It would have been easy for Jesus to ensure there was always a private tent for deliverance. He simply did what He did – whenever people came to Him or they sought Him out – on the spot where they met. That is where the power-encounter took place.
This Is How We Overcome Fear of Backlash and Fear of People’s Opinions
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.
Revelation 12:10-11
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:20
The Pastoral Side
Considering that this is not about first being fearful of consequences and the fear of people’s opinion. Considering that this is not false safety hiding in a religion of fear of people’s opinions as well as fear of consequences of persecution and suffering and losing status and control.
How can we do our best to ensure vulnerable people are not abused and misused by us?
We cannot ensure 100% people are not persecuted, abused, and misused by others. That is not our responsibility – but the responsibility of each person.
How can we ensure we do not just post a story online because it is extreme – like big demonic manifestations – in order to get views and followers – and therefore money – just for personal gain, fame, and our own glory?
We cannot control very much. We can do our best to do what is right, what is honoring, what is truthful, what is law-abiding – first God’s law – then the law of the land as it submits to the law of intimate friendship with Daddy, true love and true truth and real justice.
The Regretters
Can we avoid that people regret sharing their faith, regret sharing their testimony, and stop others from persecuting us? Not completely. Tomorrow I or you or anyone can turn away from all of the faith in Jesus and regret it all and sue and attack all around them due to disappointment, bitterness, rebellion, and sin.
We can ensure that signs are set up before entering public spaces like church services, and online rooms – that all that happens here can and will possibly be broadcast live and recorded for eternity – like all our lives are completely seen by God.
We can also say: If you are under 18 – your parents are responsible for you before God. So, please ask for their permission – and please watch this with them if at all possible. You are also responsible for your-self before God. So, before the all-knowing, purifying, love, grace, mercy, and judgment of God, you need to make your decisions.
How to keep the ministry healthy, manipulation free, and accusations low:
- Keep the ministry free of charge. Yet – you are welcome to give, support, if you have the money.
- Have effective follow up. Meaning – checking how things are going 1-2 weeks after a session.
The Negative Consequences of Miracles Through Jesus
We can also inform people that what they say or do online probably never ever goes away. So, the consequences of being delivered, healed, prophesied over, filled with the Spirit etc. online can be the loss of jobs, opportunities in the world, ridicule, shame etc. The fact though is – that all things already always have gone on the eternal “online” of God! It’s already fully seen and known by God, demons, and all of Heaven.
Stories from the Bible
This risk of bad being exposed because of miracles is also how it was in the day of Jesus.
Social Status Taken
A man and his family were thrown out of the synagogue after Jesus healed the man even though they tried hard to stay in with their friends, colleagues, family, and leaders (John 9).
Threats of Murder Came
A man, Lazarus, was raised from the dead – and THEN the Pharisees decided to kill him – because so many were coming to faith through His story. Jesus didn’t stop raising him from the dead because there would be bad consequences due to the power of God (John 11:1-48 – 12:9-11).
Jesus’ Own Family Thought He Was Crazy
Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”
Mark 3:20-21
But these things again – shouldn’t stop us from boldly declaring Jesus Christ crucified nor stopping us from demonstrating the Kingdom of God by the power of Holy Spirit.
Pharisees Were Afraid to Confess Their Faith in Jesus Out of Fear
Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God.
John 12:42-43
This is a strong warning:
“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
Matthew 10:32-33
Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated. You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.
Hebrews 10:32-34
Isn’t This Factually Just Us Trying to Wrongly Protect People From the Promised Persecution and the Expected Price of Following Jesus?
Jesus promised persecution as part of doing miracles: Matthew 10:14-39, Luke 10:10-16.
He was persecuted, misunderstood, wrongly accused, beaten, lost ALL status, lost ALL honor, lost ALL recognition, lost all ministry, lost His life, lost His reputation, lost His health, lost His following, lost His family, lost His job, lost His money – He gave it all. And now, simply, calls us to do the same.
Have we in any way lost that perspective and that way of thinking? Have we lost that calling – to be willing to fully suffer and lose our lives completely in and for and through Him?
Is that what is actually going on beneath our attempts to look super nice to the world – that actually is in rebellion against the Father?
The Big Question – Is This the Real Question Here?
In the end of the day – the question is the ask that all the disciples failed: Will you deny Christ – even though it will cost you your life (or parts of it)?
Can we be honest and brave enough to ask that question? And answer it – so help us God? And Jesus, and Holy Spirit, and Daddy says: Ok. I will help! Will we then hear, believe, receive, and act – no matter the cost – before God alone?
The Positive Consequences of Public Hard to Deny Miracles
God is seen. God is understood. God is believed. God is honored. People understand what they need to do – to be free and meet God. How the world works – is seen and understood – so that we can now do what we need to do – to get free and win.
The reality of the power of God as well as the power and influence of demons is exposed and seen for what it is. Deliverance is normalized – as it is normalized in the life of Jesus and His direct followers and as it was normal in the early church for hundreds of years after.
The positive consequence of the fullness of the power of gentle dove who can be grieved, Holy Spirit, is revival! Is the hugging and deepfriending of Daddy of His kids, of Jesus of His bride and brothers, of Holy Spirit intimate sweet fellowship and guidance. It is the meaning of life.
God-Level Social IQ – Using Our Brains to Be Fully Effective
Jesus Had God-Level Social IQ and So Did Peter, Paul and His Other Fully Trained Followers
These 3 Scriptures among many others help guide the way:
Acts 2 (Peter explaining accurately to skeptics what Holy Spirit is doing and turning the amazing situation into a mighty revival), 1 Corinthians 14:23, 1 Corinthians 9:19-23.
And even more so – all the Scriptures on Jesus deliberately provoking the Pharisees by performing miracles on the Sabbath and waiting till Lazarus was completely thoroughly dead until He went and raised Him from the dead.
We should have the same maturity and actions as His followers – speaking into the heart of our culture we are a part of – while knowing Jesus was perfect, and we are not.
We should continually strive for this – out of love for our people – so they understand – in their language – that Jesus is real and totally loves them. And Jesus was also unafraid of any opinions of people as well as obedient fully to His Daddy alone.
He was also unafraid of the possible and very real negative consequences of righteous action both for Himself and others.
Some Will Not Come for Prayer If It Is Recorded
Even though I do not live in shame or hiding – and neither should anyone – I understand that some will not come for prayer if it is recorded, and even less if it is published. Even though I, and I am convinced God agrees, we think both recording and global publication are great in order to glorify God, expose demons, and show our role in repentance, identity, and authority! These are our tools of freedom – and they are deeply practical and real and effective.
I would rather have people set free & delivered than demand public recording. At the same time, none of us can guarantee someone will not record it in the public meetings. And I will expose and destroy the evil of the enemy! (Ephesians 5:11, 1 John 3:8, Acts 10:38).
What is truly effective in the culture we are a part of? To just limit it? Limiting what Holy Spirit will and can do? Or to show the fullness of the power of God openly with great explanation, demonstration, and evidence into the culture – like Peter did on Pentecost, and Jesus did continually?
In Matthew 10:16 Jesus says to the disciples He sends out: I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore, be as shrewd (wise, wary, intelligent, prudent, thoughtful, practical, skillful, smart) as snakes and as innocent as doves.
So – led by Holy Spirit, filled with fire, power, passion, love, and authority – how do we best meet and minister to those we meet – so they can meet the fullness of the resurrected King?
