Practical Deliverance for Beginners – An 8-Session Course Outline
This practical deliverance course outline shows you, session by session, how deliverance works and how to do it in a biblical and healthy way.
(Acts 17:11: Please learn to do your own Bible studies like this one – here.)
These are my teacher’s notes for the 8-session course – every session is also on YouTube in the Practical Deliverance for Beginners playlist. It is a practical course – not a theological document.
Session 1: What Is Deliverance? My Story of Needing Deliverance – and Then Giving It to Others
I have come to see that deliverance can help so many more people than I thought. I, myself, needed it – and I had no idea I needed it. I am free now from the sin of watching porn that I struggled with for 18 long years. I repented, I obeyed the loving commands of Jesus, and I got delivered from the demons I had opened up to. I found the roots behind the fruits – and I repented. Please see my other videos on YouTube for my in-depth story. Now I believe everyone should have a yearly, methodical spiritual check-up of inner healing, repentance, and deliverance – especially leaders. I now offer that – and see so much freedom come to people because of it.
If this were something unique only I could do, I would be so wrong. I could literally spend all my time doing this because of the many people who come asking for help. This course is here to give away completely freely what I have received freely. Of course, you are welcome to give and support me – I do believe it is the right thing to do, and I have in various ways supported those I have learned from (details here). But getting and giving deliverance and teaching on it is a free gift – paid for by Jesus Christ Himself, paid in full (Matthew 10:7-8, Romans 6:23, Hebrews 10:10-12)!
What is deliverance?
Demons are spirits with no physical body. They clearly like to be in physical living bodies. Demons reside in “wet places” (the opposite of the dry places in Matthew 12:43-45) = the human flesh is a wet place. Deliverance is needed when people have an evil spirit residing in their flesh. Then it needs to be cast out. This ministry was done by Jesus, commanded by Jesus, and done by the 12, the 70, and others. We see that demons operate and gain access through “legal rights” – basically, the spiritual laws of love, goodness, truth, obedience, holiness, purity, and the power of God that you and I have broken, thereby opening doors and windows of the “house” of our body to evil spirits.
If you do not believe in deliverance yet
Please look at the YouTube playlist “Overcoming Objections to Deliverance.” Listen to the genuine stories of ordinary men and women – including myself – who tell how they needed deliverance and how it helped them. Maybe you want to test the need by hearing how it can be done effectively – then by all means, listen on.
My own story
- I needed it – and I am free – and I am SO happy to be! Now I want to see how it can help others. I was watching porn for 18 years and could not understand why.
- Early on I learned from Rebecca Brown and Graham Powell – and in Ringkøbing there was a lady with a spirit of sickness. Then Jerry Ramos at CFNI – Carroll Thompson’s class and ministry – and friends who were set free.
- I thought deliverance was only for those who obviously had demons through occult involvement or satanic worship. But now I know demons can come in through no fault of yours – through your bloodline. You still need to deal with it, though. Jesus made a way!
- I learned from Rodney Hogue, The Demon Slayers, Torben Søndergaard, and Don Dickerman – and from friends locally and globally who did it and nerded it. I listened in, I prayed along, I took notes, I asked questions. Then I just started to pray for people as I had seen others do it.
- Today I do it a lot. I could do this all day and every evening – the need is that big! But I need to train people now. I need to multiply myself – not just add more “of myself.” Therefore, this is free for all to be trained. Jesus trained His disciples to do all He did. This is a natural part of discipleship.
Now – get ready to learn this part of normal, natural discipleship as Jesus wants it to be. All believers are disciples, and Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Session 2: Who Is This Course For? Who Is It Not For? How to Overcome Skepticism
This is for you if you know deliverance is real and needed, and you want to know how to do it biblically, healthily, and effectively – thereby helping people who need us to use this tool to get their freedom.
If you first need your skepticism toward deliverance dealt with, I suggest five good paths:
- Find someone credible who believes in it and practices it. Talk with them about their theology and experiences. Ask them to include you in deliverance sessions so you can see it for yourself.
- Get yourself into live, healthy public or semi-public deliverance sessions and see how it actually works. Contact us – we might provide an opportunity for that.
- Go through the Action Christianity course on removing deliverance skepticism and barriers.
- Listen to the thousands of online testimonies of deliverance – and even meet and interview people who have truly been delivered and are now walking in their freedom.
- Obey the words of Jesus in John 7:17: Simply obey = do the commands of Jesus – and you will find that what He commanded His followers to do, He still commands, and it still works.
Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.
John 7:17
Session 3: Who Can Do Deliverance?
The requirement for the prayer minister who wants to do deliverance is nothing other than willingness proven by action, submission to God, and doing it in the name of Jesus. You have the authority in His name, and being born again, you have the fullness of the power of the Holy Spirit in you to do it. Brand-new Christians can do this – and have done it successfully.
Should we seek to grow in all disciplines of being a disciple directly under Jesus? YES – we should, and we must. Doing deliverance actively is part of being a normal disciple of Jesus Christ. He did it, we need to learn how to do it, and we need to train others, as 2 Timothy 2:2 says. That is revival. So, grow in this by studying, watching, doing it, and training others to do it.
These things should happen over time as we mature – and as soon as possible
- It helps to be born again and have the Holy Spirit living inside your spirit. You risk being overrun by demons if you just use the name of Jesus without being born again (even though Judas did deliverance without being born again).
- It helps to be baptized in the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues.
- It helps to have a holy lifestyle: longing for and practicing the Secret Place, going radically for full holiness, understanding the supernatural world according to the Bible, a healthy diet and exercise, and a healthy family life.
- It helps to have a good, healthy theological foundation.
- It helps to have gone through deliverance yourself – to see how it is, and whether anything is “in there” that you didn’t know about.
- It helps to have been trained under someone who does deliverance in a healthy way – and then to be sent out and released by them. We are happy to provide that training and accountability – if you will agree to train others and hold others accountable.
- Are you living 1 Timothy 3:1-16 – the whole chapter?
Session 4: How to Know If Someone Could Need Deliverance – the Spiritual Freedom Form
The demonic can be – yet might not be – involved in any sin, any oppression, any mindset and conviction, any sickness, or any mental disorder. Here is my teaching on that, which I go through in this session: Who is deliverance for?
The form is not needed for deliverance to happen, so do not be dependent on it – but it truly can be helpful. It helps both the person getting prayer and the person praying get an overview of where the issues could be and where they could come from. Here is the Spiritual Freedom Intake Form.
Session 5: The Practical Preparation to Do Deliverance Publicly and Privately
There are basically four ways of doing deliverance. Thousands of people have been set free, fully or partly, using each of them – and all work best led by the Holy Spirit, as all things do:
- Self-deliverance – a person confesses sin, repents, turns to truth, runs into the love of the Father, and commands demons of X/Y/Z to leave in Jesus’ name, as led by the Holy Spirit. This was part of how I was set free – along with repenting from believing the enemy’s lie in my emotions that God partly rejected me, and running to the love of the Father evidenced through the cross of Jesus. Rejection is a lie!!
- Mass deliverance – a person (1) prays over a crowd, (2) leads people to repeat prayers breaking curses and repenting from sins, and then (3) commands demons of X/Y/Z to leave – (4) all as led by the Holy Spirit.
- One-on-one “brute-force” deliverance – you just command demons to go, as led by the Holy Spirit. Typically in public, at a Christian meeting, or over Zoom, where there is not much time for one person.
- Private, methodical, structured deliverance sessions – typically in a home or similar smaller setting. That is the one I have done the most.
This course primarily focuses on the methodical, structured sessions, because anyone with a home can practice this and help others right away. The other kinds are great and work well. Jesus and His disciples did this wherever they were – we need to learn the same and be ready as we go.
Preparing the person to receive deliverance
- Fasting
- Prayer – run into and stay in the full love of the Father ALWAYS! NOW! FOREVER!
- Self-deliverance
- Forgiveness
- Self-repentance – turning wholeheartedly to the Father, truth, honesty, love, and forgiveness
- Holy Spirit baptism
- Hunger
- Action
Is it dangerous to do deliverance?
No. Jesus told us directly, in the context of deliverance, that “nothing will by any means harm us” (Luke 10:19). Stop believing what Hollywood movies want to tell you. What you expect will come to you. I have found that because I know how to do deliverance, I also know the schemes of the enemy better:
In order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
2 Corinthians 2:11
My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.
Hosea 4:6
This is typically how we prepare for a deliverance session in our home: Practical Physical Step-by-Step Steps to Do Deliverance Sessions.
Session 6: The Actual Deliverance Session – Doing It
The commands I use – all in the name of Jesus
I honestly want you to practice these commands – this way of speaking – for deliverance, for healing, and for speaking to circumstances and even the weather. Study the Bible – this is how Jesus did it. SO PLEASE REPEAT AFTER ME, to get this way of speaking with authority under your skin. When we ask God for help against demons, He says: YES – here is my help: See, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy – now use it.
- “Who is the highest-ranking demon? Come forward now. What is your name?”
- When they speak: “Does this stand as true before Jehovah God?” – repeated up to three times if you have any inkling that it is not the truth.
- “Fire! Fire! Fire!”
- “I pierce you. I stab you with the sword of the Word of God – dipped in the blood of Jesus.”
- “I bind you by the blood of Jesus.”
- Executing the deliverance: “Come up and out now through the breath, in the name of Jesus.”
Remember – there is a fight. It is sometimes a struggle and a battle. Check back if the legal rights have not been broken. Go through our “manual”: Spiritual Freedom Procedure – our Manual for Deliverance.
Session 7: Follow-Up After Deliverance and How to Stay Free
- A weekly dialogue check-in.
- Another session – it’s like an onion with layer after layer, until real, deep, complete freedom is achieved.
- Fill the house with obedience to love, truth, and holiness.
- Your choice to fight: submit to God – run into Daddyo’s pure, complete, and radical love. Resist the enemy – use your authority – be obedient. Fight – resist. Don’t only ask God (do that too) – but command with the authority OF GOD. He will then flee.
Teach them
- Righteousness and perfection by faith alone: Justification by Faith – Perfect in God’s Eyes, as a Free Gift.
- Continual inner healing.
- Self-deliverance – use this guide to self-deliverance prayers.
- Obedience – for Jesus was completely obedient out of love for us. A love we not only didn’t deserve, but utterly rejected, hated, and killed – yet it is still there.
- Continual repentance and brokenness before God.
- Go out and bear much fruit now – to the glory of the Father.
- Broad, healthy, simple, obedient discipleship: repent and run from the lie that God is evil to the good truth of the pure love of the Father; prayer – intimacy in the secret place; the Word; fellowship; action on all the commands of Jesus, including Matthew 10 and Luke 10.
- Seek insight into your calling directly from the Father, and run with it passionately – also through good prophets, as a secondary but good way.
Session 8: How to Get Started – Let’s Do This
It is the very model and command of Jesus to do this. You have full authority from Heaven to learn how to do it – and then to do it.
For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.
2 Chronicles 16:9
Have you fully surrendered to the One who fully surrendered to you and is holding out a soft, gentle, bleeding, loving heart toward you?
Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.
1 Corinthians 14:1
Outline of biblical usage of ζηλόω:
- to burn with zeal
- to be heated or to boil with envy, hatred, anger
- in a good sense, to be zealous in the pursuit of good
- to desire earnestly, pursue
- to desire one earnestly, to strive after, busy one’s self about him
- to exert one’s self for one (that he may not be torn from me)
- to be the object of the zeal of others, to be zealously sought after
- to envy
“Eagerly desire” is mentioned three times (1 Corinthians 12:31, 1 Corinthians 14:1, and 1 Corinthians 14:12). The Greek word is ζηλόω – zēloō = to burn with zeal: to desire earnestly, to pursue, to strive after, to be zealous in the pursuit of good. This is not a relaxed “oh, if God wills.” No – this is passion, this is action; this is “I don’t care what people think – I WANT IT!” Not “if it happens, it happens, for God is in control.” No – this is a passionate, zealous desire to do this!! You decide – you desire. It’s on us. We can obey or not. We can do this or not.
Set time aside
I found out I had to set time aside to get this done and start practicing. See it as a sport you do two evenings a week:
- One evening a week – go for a prayer walk and see if you can be led to some people of peace and be allowed to pray for them and talk with them.
- One evening a week – invite people to your home for prayer for freedom.
Here is the plan I followed while working full time – may it inspire you: How I lived my daily life with a full-time job and bore much fruit – seeing deliverances, healings, salvations, baptisms in the Holy Spirit, and disciples made.
You are called. There is no such thing as a disciple of Jesus today who is not called to do deliverance – and there was no such thing at the time of Jesus. Jesus commanded it to both the 12 and the 70.
You can get started now
- Use the tools I have made: healthy, normal discipleship courses, quality time with God one-on-one, the form and the self-deliverance prayers, the practice, and the follow-up.
- Good books and resources about deliverance: Peter Horrobin, Alexander Pagani, Don Dickerman, Rodney Hogue, and other ministries to learn from.
- Get hands-on training – it is so important.
- Join us – go to ActionChristianity.com, sign up to be an “Action Christian,” and follow us on social media (even click “Always notify”).
- Sign up on the deliverance maps: Isaiah Saldivar, Daniel Adams’ Forerunner map, the TLR map – and an Action Christianity map is coming.
How to help people agree to let you pray for deliverance
Just say: “It has helped me. I see some good things happening from it. Maybe this could help you too?”
Now, when it comes to all that Jesus commanded – where doing deliverance is a healthy part – I like Nike’s slogan: Just do it. So, let’s do this – to the glory of God.
