Discovery Bible Study (DBS) – Reading and Applying the Bible for Simple Obedient Discipleship

SHARE

What is Discovery Bible Study (DBS)? It is a simple way for a small group to read the Bible, hear God, obey what He says, and share it with others.

(Acts 17:11: Please learn to do your own Bible studies like this one – here.)

What Is Discovery Bible Study?

We use “Discovery Bible Study” as an approach to inductive Bible study for training believers and training leaders, not as a primary approach to evangelism – even though pre-believers and seekers are welcome to join and learn and investigate faith and the Bible this way.

This basic pattern uses four simple questions to help people develop a routine of hearing and obeying God.

Network Group Questions

For network groups in “households of peace”

General Introduction

  • What are you grateful for?
  • What are you struggling with or stressed by?
  • What about your family, friends, and neighbors?

Review the Previous Bible Section

Ask someone to retell the story from the last meeting. Review the answers you found on:

  • What did this teach us about God?
  • What did this teach us about ourselves/people?
  • How did you apply/obey?
  • Was there a group application/obedience?
  • Who did you tell it to (and how did they react)?

The New Bible Section

Read the new Bible section several times, and then let everyone retell the story.

Then discuss…

  • What does this teach us about God?
  • What did this teach us about ourselves/people?
  • What do you need to apply/obey?
  • Is there a way we could apply this as a group?
  • Who will you tell it to?
